Bernadette "Bernie" Cleland
Professional Experience
Bernie has been an educator for 30 years working as an elementary,
middle and high school English and social studies teacher, a middle and high
school principal, an adjunct college professor, and as an educational
consultant. She has worked with the New England Association of Schools and
Colleges to provide professional development for schools around high school
accreditation and numerous school reform efforts. She has worked closely
with large urban districts, suburban districts, small rural districts and
state departments of education in the areas of teacher and administrator
professional development.
Experience with The Framework for Teaching
Bernie currently serves as a consultant assisting numerous
districts around the United States in the development of evaluation systems,
mentoring programs, and professional development based on The
Framework for Teaching. She delivers graduate level courses for school
districts using The Framework for Teaching as the focus of
study, and is involved in on-going professional development in schools where
the Framework’s rubrics are used as a tool for reflection, goal
setting and professional conversation.
Bernie has presented at national conferences with Charlotte Danielson and
has been a national trainer and consultant with Educational Testing Service
in Princeton, New Jersey on the Pathwise and Keeping Learning on Track (KLT) programs.
